About Me
Reader, writer, and lover of all things literary! My name is Mary and I am a Writing teacher at Jemicy Upper School, along with being the assistant editor of the Hampden Writers Group literary journal, The Avenue. Previously, I have served as editor for award-winning novel Of White Ashes by Constance and Kent Matsumoto, as well as poetry collection Losing Purchase by Bruce Dethlefsen. In 2023 I was the recipient of the US-UK Fulbright Award for Creative Writing, wherein I focused on researching Latino literature alongside writing my own. My ethnic culture and family are the cornerstones that hold me together, and I love honoring that impact for myself and others as much as possible. Outside of writing, I am a big cat lover and frequently volunteer at local cat rescues. I can often be found running around outside, painting, collecting silly knickknacks, and foster failing.
